President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has officially commissioned the $52 million Bolgatanga Regional Hospital, marking the completion of the third phase of the rehabilitation project. This ultramodern facility is poised to revolutionize healthcare delivery in the Upper East Region and beyond.
Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, President Akufo-Addo emphasized that healthcare is a fundamental right and his administration is dedicated to making it a practical reality for all citizens.
“Access to quality healthcare is a fundamental right of every citizen, and it is the responsibility of government to ensure that the exercise of this right is not just theoretical, but, more importantly, practical” he said.
The hospital’s commissioning highlights the Akufo-Addo administration’s broader healthcare agenda, including the ambitious Agenda 111 initiative, which aims to construct 111 district hospitals and regional facilities nationwide. The president assured the nation of his government’s unwavering commitment to promoting development in all regions, regardless of political affiliations.
The new additions to the rehabilitation project include a modern mortuary block, accommodation for doctors, a relative hostel and a medical gas building. Additionally, the project features a comprehensive fence wall, a state-of-the-art kitchen, a Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) and a laundry facility.
Addressing the uneven distribution of healthcare workers, President Akufo-Addo urged the Ministry of Health to finalize an incentive package to attract and retain medical professionals in rural and underserved areas.
“By the end of 2024, a significant number of health-related projects will be completed, including the Urology and Nephrology Center of Excellence at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, as well as 11 district hospitals and one polyclinic in the Eastern, Ashanti, Ahafo, and Greater Accra regions,” he concluded.
The president expressed gratitude to the Saudi Fund for Development and all stakeholders involved in the project, calling on the people of Bolgatanga and the Upper East Region to take ownership of the hospital and support the health workers serving the community.
