The Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) has instructed colleges of education nationwide to remain operational despite the ongoing strike by the Colleges of Education Teachers Association of Ghana (CETAG), which began on June 14.
CETAG is protesting the government’s failure to implement arbitral awards and address its members’ conditions of service.
Although there have been suggestions to close the colleges due to the two-month strike, GTEC has not made such a decision.
In a statement dated August 16, GTEC clarified that it has not been directed by the Education Minister to close the colleges and therefore, all 46 colleges of education should continue to operate until further notice.
Meanwhile, the Education Ministry is insisting that Colleges of Education will not be closed down despite the ongoing strike by members of the Colleges of Education Teachers’ Association of Ghana (CETAG) entering day 65.
