The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to reconsider its refusal to sign a peace declaration ahead of the 2024 elections.
The cites concerns that this stance may foster an environment of fear and suspicion among NDC supporters. The NPP described the NDC’s position, as stated by Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia, as “unfortunate” and “incendiary.”
In a statement, the NPP emphasized its commitment to maintaining peace and stability in Ghana, highlighting its consistent signing of the Peace Accord since 2008, regardless of whether it was in government or opposition.
The party noted that it had previously signed the accord even when it had concerns about the electoral process, such as in 2016 when it challenged the 2012 election results in court.
The NPP called on the NDC to prioritize the national interest and reconsider its position.
