IBF heavyweight champion Daniel Dubois is still on track for a rematch with Oleksandr Usyk, as confirmed by his promoter, Frank Warren.
Despite being forced to withdraw from his title defense against New Zealand’s Joseph Parker in Saudi Arabia due to illness, Warren remains confident that a unification bout with Usyk, who holds the WBA (Super), WBO, and IBF titles, is still a strong possibility.
Warren explained that the next move for Dubois would likely involve a fight with Usyk for all four belts, or possibly a bout with Anthony Joshua.
He mentioned that the decision would be made within the next week or so, after discussing the available options with the team.
Warren emphasized that while everyone’s input would be considered, the final decision would rest with Dubois, as he was the one stepping into the ring.
Dubois and Usyk had fought previously in August 2023, with Usyk emerging victorious by stopping Dubois in the ninth round.
After that, Dubois was promoted to IBF champion when Usyk vacated the title, shortly after becoming the first undisputed heavyweight champion in 25 years following his victory over Tyson Fury.
Dubois had been looking forward to defending his title against Parker, aiming to extend his 22-fight unbeaten streak, including his impressive victory over Joshua in September.
However, just days before the fight, he was withdrawn after a medical evaluation. His place was taken by Martin Bakole, who was subsequently defeated by Parker in just two rounds.
Warren expressed that Dubois was deeply disappointed by the turn of events, believing that he could have beaten Parker in the same manner he had done with Joshua.
He noted that Dubois felt as though his moment had been taken away, coming at the worst possible time.
The setback had cost him both financially and deprived fans of what would have been an exciting matchup.
