Manchester United has announced the appointment of Ruben Amorim as their new head coach, replacing Erik ten Hag. The 39-year-old Portuguese will join the Red Devils on November 11, signing a contract until June 2027, with an option for an additional year.
Amorim, renowned for his tactical acumen and ability to inspire top performances, brings a promising track record to Old Trafford. His success with limited resources and achievements with Sporting CP have drawn comparisons to Jose Mourinho.
Amorim began his managerial career with third-tier Casa Pia in 2018. He then joined Braga’s B team, managing 11 matches before taking charge of the first team. In 13 games, Amorim led Braga to their first away win against Benfica in 65 years and secured the Taca da Liga cup final.
Sporting CP recognized Amorim’s potential, making him the most expensive managerial hire in Portuguese history with an £8.5m deal. Amorim repaid Sporting’s faith, guiding the club to two Primeira Liga titles, including their first in 19 years.
Amorim inherits a Manchester United side struggling in 14th place in the Premier League and 21st in the Europa League. However, his reputation as one of Europe’s most promising managers brings optimism.
