Election Watch Ghana, an advocacy group is calling on the Electoral Commission (EC), demanding the immediate release of the Provisional Voter Register (PVR) to political parties.
This action was prompted by the EC’s delay in publishing the provisional voter register, a requirement under the Constitutional Instrument governing the 2024 elections.
Despite previous assurances from the EC, the delay has raised concerns among opposition parties, particularly the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and other stakeholders in the upcoming general elections.
Speaking to the media outside the EC headquarters, the Convenor of Election Watch Ghana Mark Ewusi, said the delay is undermining the transparency and integrity of the electoral process
“We all know that per the calendar of the Electoral Commission, tomorrow is said to be the day for the exhibition and it is very prudent for political parties to get hold of the provisional register so that we can scrutinize it for the exercise tomorrow. Unfortunately for us, we got here and the commissioners themselves and the workers had not resumed work,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Deputy EC Chairman Bossman Asare noted that the voter register is ready and the exhibition would commence on Tuesday, August 20 without any interference.
