Jannik Sinner showcased his unrelenting brilliance, outclassing Alexander Zverev 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3 to retain his Australian Open crown and solidify his place among the sport’s elite.

The 23-year-old Italian was near-flawless, refusing to surrender a single break point in a two-hour, 42-minute masterclass. His victory not only made him the first Italian to win three Grand Slam titles but also extended his astonishing 21-match win streak at hard-court majors.

After conquering both the Australian Open and US Open in 2024, Sinner now stands alongside legends as the fifth player in the Open Era to secure three consecutive hard-court Slams, a feat last achieved by Novak Djokovic in 2015-16.

Zverev, the World No. 2, entered the final with hopes of claiming his first Grand Slam title but struggled to gain any foothold against Sinner’s relentless baseline game. Despite flashes of brilliance, including coming within two points of taking the second set, the German’s challenge faltered under pressure, leaving him 0-3 in major finals.

Sinner’s dominance was underscored by impeccable serving. His ability to neutralize Zverev’s typically powerful groundstrokes was pivotal, forcing some 12 unforced errors from his opponent. Even a moment of concern—a minor leg strain during the second set—did little to derail Sinner’s momentum. He responded with a jaw-dropping 21-shot rally, capped by a backhand winner that epitomized his grit and precision.

Zverev’s frustration grew as the match slipped away, while Sinner capitalized on every opportunity. A fortunate net cord in the second-set tiebreak tilted the balance further, and from there, the Italian powered through with his signature ball-striking.

As Zverev’s wait for a Slam continues, Sinner’s star shines brighter than ever.
