The Accra Sports Stadium turned into a stage of celebration on Saturday as Ghana’s Black Maidens produced a ruthless display to crush Liberia 6-0 in the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers. Fast, fearless, and relentless, the young Ghanaian side overwhelmed their opponents and moved within touching distance of the next round.

From the first whistle, Ghana played with confidence and hunger. The Black Maidens pressed high, moved the ball quickly, and forced Liberia onto the back foot almost immediately. Even before the breakthrough arrived, the warning signs were everywhere.

Joe Nana Adarkwa’s side had two goals ruled out for offside inside the opening 25 minutes. Yet the missed chances did not shake their rhythm. Instead, the pressure only grew stronger as the home crowd sensed something special building in Accra.

The breakthrough finally came in the 31st minute. Jessica Appiah burst down the left wing with purpose before Daniella Abass applied the finishing touch from close range to hand Ghana a deserved lead.

The goal lifted the atmosphere inside the stadium. Drums echoed across the stands while supporters rose to salute a team playing with freedom and energy. Ghana could have added more before halftime, but wasteful finishing kept Liberia alive, at least temporarily.

The second half, however, became a one-sided exhibition. Ghana returned from the break with even greater intensity, and Liberia simply could not cope with the movement and speed of the Black Maidens attack.

Captain Seidatu Wahab calmly doubled the lead from the penalty spot after a handball inside the box. Moments later, Linda Achiaa turned defence into attack in seconds, rounded the goalkeeper with composure, and slotted home Ghana’s third.

At that point, the visitors looked mentally beaten. Ghana smelled vulnerability and attacked in waves, stretching Liberia’s defence with clever passing and aggressive runs behind the back line.

Substitute Priscilla Mensah made an instant impact when she teed up Jessica Appiah for the fourth goal. The winger deserved her moment after tormenting Liberia throughout the game with direct running and creativity.

Mensah later added her own name to the scoresheet with Ghana’s fifth goal of the afternoon. Then came the final blow deep into stoppage time, as Liberia’s risky high defensive line allowed Mavis Yeboah to race through and complete the six-goal demolition.

Beyond the scoreline, this was a performance full of maturity and tactical discipline. Ghana looked balanced in every department. The midfield controlled possession with authority, while the defence stayed organised whenever Liberia attempted to counter.

The result also underlined the growing strength of women’s football in Ghana. The Black Maidens, who eliminated Togo in the previous round, now carry huge momentum into the second leg in Liberia next weekend. Cameroon or Senegal await in the final qualifying stage if Ghana finish the job.
