Daniel Amartey has officially parted ways with Turkish club Besiktas after both parties mutually agreed to terminate his contract. This decision ends weeks of tension surrounding Amartey’s future with the club.
The Ghanaian international Amartey, who joined Besiktas in 2023 on a two-year deal, still had one year left on his contract. However, the club had been trying to transfer the 29-year-old centre-back during the summer window. According to reports, Besiktas wanted to move him, but Amartey allegedly refused to leave, with claims suggesting he was only interested in a move to England, despite the transfer window already being closed.
The club’s spokesperson, Huseyin Yucel, described Amartey’s stance as “strange,” further fueling speculation. Amartey, however, denied the accusations, calling them “untrue.”
Now a free agent, Amartey is free to join a club of his choosing. The Ghanaian defender was a key part of Leicester City’s historic Premier League-winning squad in 2015/16 and has earned 55 caps for the Ghana national team.
