Singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has taken his passion for Ipswich Town to the next level by acquiring a 1.4% minority stake in the newly promoted Premier League club.
The 33-year-old pop star, who has been a devoted fan of the “Tractor Boys” since childhood, will now have a small ownership role in the team he has long supported.
Sheeran’s investment is described as “passive and minority,” meaning he won’t have any influence on the club’s decision-making or join the board.
However, Ipswich Town has granted him long-term use of an executive box at their home stadium, Portman Road.
Since 2021, Sheeran has served as the club’s main shirt sponsor and even designed their Suffolk-inspired third kit.
Reflecting on his new role, Sheeran said, “It’s any football fan’s dream to own a piece of the club they support, and I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity.
I’ve lived in Suffolk since I was three years old, and Ipswich has always been my home. While I may not be a voting shareholder or a board member, this is my way of giving back to the club I love.”
Sheeran also urged fans not to bombard him with advice on signings or tactics, emphasizing that his role is purely supportive.
He expressed his excitement for Ipswich’s upcoming Premier League season, which kicks off with a home game against Liverpool on Saturday.
Ipswich chairman Mark Ashton praised Sheeran’s continued support, calling it “remarkable” and noting that the partnership has given the club incredible exposure worldwide.
Ashton added that Sheeran’s investment feels like a natural progression in their relationship.
In addition to Sheeran’s involvement, former Ipswich captain Matt Holland, who played for the club from 1997 to 2003, has joined the board of directors as Ipswich Town prepares for its Premier League return.
