The Leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has formally petitioned Parliament regarding alleged discrepancies in the voters’ register for the upcoming December 2024 elections.

The petition also addresses the Electoral Commission’s (EC) refusal to allow an independent audit of the register.

Earlier today, NDC executives and supporters held nationwide protests, demanding transparency from the EC and insisting on an independent audit of the voter roll.

General Secretary of the NDC, Fiifi Fiavi Kwetey, presented the party’s demands to the leadership of Parliament, who received the petition on behalf of the Speaker.

Among the ten key demands, the NDC is calling for a bipartisan investigation into the EC’s activities, an independent forensic audit of the voters’ register, the immediate publication of audit results and a re-exhibition of the register after the audit, with a proposed five-day period for the re-exhibition process.

Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, who accepted the petition, assured the NDC that Parliament will consider their demands. He emphasized the need for all stakeholders to participate in discussions, acknowledging the importance of addressing any legitimate concerns raised.

“I agree with the Minority Leader that as a House, we have to look at the issues presented and I encourage all stakeholders to also avail themselves. I believe that if there are genuine concerns we can all raise it and discuss it at the table,” he noted.
