In the early hours of Saturday, September 28, 2024, the Camp 2 School Park in Teshie became a beacon of hope for over 16,000 people as the Empowerment Care Foundation’s LifeCheck 2024 outreach program delivered crucial medical care, educational supplies, and more to children, women, and men in need.

The annual outreach program, organized by the Empowerment Worship Centre (EWC) under the leadership of its Global Lead Pastor, Gideon Danso, lived up to its mission of spreading “Compassion to Make a Difference.”

LifeCheck, now in its 10th year, attracted attendees from surrounding areas such as Tse Addo, Baatsonaa, Nungua, and Spintex.

The one-day event, which began as early as 2 a.m., offered a wide range of free medical services, including eye care, dental services, ultrasound scans, minor surgeries, and medications. Attendees also had access to laboratory tests for hepatitis B, malaria, prostate conditions, typhoid, and blood sugar levels. An additional highlight was the registration of about 500 people for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).

This year’s LifeCheck also contributed to Ghana’s National Blood Bank by collecting over 50 pints of blood, donated by EWC volunteers.

In addition to medical aid, LifeCheck’s Back-to-School initiative provided over 11,000 children with 100,000 exercise books, more than 4,000 school bags, and various stationery items.

The event distributed 5,200 pairs of shoes to children, while almost 100 kids received haircuts to prepare them for the new school year. Over 10,000 families were also provided with free meals, further enhancing the spirit of compassion.

Pastor Gideon Danso emphasized the outreach’s alignment with the teachings of the Bible, stating, “LifeCheck is our way of being the arms and feet of Jesus.” The theme for this year’s event, “Compassion to Make a Difference,” was inspired by Jude 1:22 and reflected in the dedication of the 500 volunteers and 100 medical personnel who participated.

A LifeCheck volunteer expressed the deep sense of fulfillment she gains from participating in the outreach: “It’s not only a blessing to the communities we serve, but through LifeCheck, I get to be part of something bigger with far-reaching impact.”

LifeCheck 2024 wrapped up by 4 p.m., marking another successful chapter in a decade-long mission that has, since its inception, served more than 52,000 people with medical care and back-to-school resources, fed over 52,000 individuals, and registered over 11,000 for the NHIS. This year’s event exceeded its target of 15,000 attendees, underscoring the growing impact of the initiative.
