Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin has once again voiced strong opposition to LGBTQ+ activities, affirming that such practices will neither be accepted nor legalised in Ghana.
His remarks were made during an official visit to Uganda, where he emphasised that Ghana’s cultural and moral values are fundamentally at odds with LGBTQ+ orientations.
“You can be sure that the world they want to create and impose on us will not exist while we are alive. LGBT is not African, it is not natural, and God did not create it. This is an imposition that we must all resist,” Bagbin declared.
The Speaker’s comments come amid ongoing national and regional debates over the legality and social acceptance of LGBTQ+ activities. In Ghana, the controversial anti-LGBTQ+ bill was passed by the 8th Parliament but failed to receive presidential assent before the term ended.
While President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo neither signed the bill into law nor referred it to the Supreme Court, private legal challenges have since been filed questioning its constitutionality and the legislative process.
As of the end of the 8th Parliament, the Supreme Court had yet to issue a ruling on the matter, leading to the bill’s lapse.
