The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana has affirmed the credibility and robustness of the 2024 Voters’ Register, urging citizens to disregard claims questioning its integrity.
In a statement on Wednesday via X (formerly Twitter), the Commission reassured the public of its readiness for the upcoming elections, emphasizing that the register is fully reliable.
This response follows allegations from the National Democratic Congress (NDC), with the party claiming discrepancies in the register that need rectification ahead of the elections.
The NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, during his campaign in Adjen Kotoku in the Amasaman constituency on Wednesday, called on the EC to address these issues promptly. He raised concerns about people being unable to find their names on the register, unauthorized transfers of voter names, and instances of proxy registrations without biometric verification.
“A lot of people cannot find their names. Other people’s names have been transferred without their knowledge. People have registered for a proxy without using their biometric cards. People who have done multiple registrations their names are still on the register,” he stated.
Despite these concerns, the EC remains firm, reiterating that the 2024 Voters’ Register is both credible and prepared for the upcoming elections.
