Emma Raducanu, the British tennis star lost to fellow Grand Slam champion Sofia Kenin in the first round of this year’s US Open, falling 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.

This marked her third consecutive first-round exit in New York since her stunning 2021 US Open victory as a teenage qualifier.

Raducanu, now 21, missed last year’s tournament due to wrist and ankle surgery and only played one event between Wimbledon in July and the US Open, reaching the quarter-finals in Washington earlier this month.

Despite her efforts, she was unable to secure her first win at the US Open since her remarkable title run.

Visibly emotional during the post-match press conference, Raducanu admitted feeling “sad” and “down” about the loss but emphasized the importance of learning from the experience.

She highlighted the need to manage her schedule differently for future Grand Slam events, saying she would like to play more matches in the lead-up.
