The Cyber Crime Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has arrested a 36-year-old entrepreneur over allegations of non-consensual sharing of intimate images and online sexual exploitation.
The suspect, identified as Joshua Kojo Anane Boateng, a resident of East Legon in Accra, was arrested on May 6, 2026, during a joint intelligence-led operation involving the CID Cyber Crime Unit and the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).
Briefing the media on Tuesday, May 12, CID Director-General, Commissioner of Police Lydia Yaako Donkor, said investigations suggest the suspect operated a Telegram platform named “VIP Sleep Fetish 2025.”
She alleged that the suspect used a substance identified as alprazolam, commonly known as Xanax, to allegedly sedate unsuspecting women before sexually assaulting them, recording the acts, and distributing the content online without consent.
According to her, preliminary investigations further indicate that the suspect targeted victims at nightclubs, where he allegedly engaged in similar offences and circulated the material on digital platforms.
During the arrest, police retrieved several items, including two iPhones, a feature phone, a memory card, a Seagate external hard drive, a MacBook laptop, an iSafe device, and empty sachets suspected to have contained alprazolam and midazolam.
The Ghana Police Service said the electronic devices have been secured for forensic analysis, while the sachets will be sent to the Food and Drugs Authority for examination to determine their composition and classification.
Commissioner Donkor confirmed that the suspect has been arraigned before court, with investigations ongoing.
The Police Service reiterated its commitment to tackling cyber-enabled sexual exploitation and urged the public to report such cases to the appropriate security agencies.
