The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has agreed to accept the Electoral Commission’s (EC) promise to release a corrected and updated version of the 2024 Provisional Voters Register, but with strict conditions.

The party insists that the updated register must be made available to political parties within one week for thorough scrutiny.

Furthermore, the NDC has called for the re-exhibition of the register, recommending that this process be conducted both online and physically at exhibition centres across the country.

The NDC has also demanded a multi-stakeholder and interparty review of the EC’s IT systems, citing vulnerabilities that could be exploited to manipulate election results.

The party stresses that addressing these technological issues is critical to safeguarding the integrity of the upcoming December 2024 general elections.

These conditions follow significant concerns raised by the NDC after the Special Inter-Party Advisory Committee (IPAC) meeting, where the party highlighted several issues with the provisional voters’ register.

The NDC’s Functional Executive Committee (FEC) pointed to the illegal transfer of voters due to the lack of effective technology, erroneous additions to the transfer list, and the presence of corrupted files in the provisional register.

Additionally, the NDC expressed alarm over the EC’s decision to delete certain voters, potentially placing them on aMissing Voters Register.

The party is particularly worried about vulnerabilities in the EC’s IT system, which they argue could be exploited by both officials and non-officials with access to the system.

As the December 2024 elections approach, the NDC is urging swift and transparent actions from the EC to restore confidence in the electoral process, warning that failure to address these issues could result in compromised election outcomes.
