Mykhailo Mudryk has a fresh stage and a familiar face in the dugout. Tottenham have signed the Chelsea winger on a season-long loan with an option to buy, giving the Ukraine international a chance to rebuild his career after a difficult spell in west London.
Mudryk has not played a competitive match since November 2024. His absence followed a doping ban that was resolved in July, making his move to Tottenham an important step as he tries to return to the spotlight.
The 25-year-old arrived at Chelsea in January 2023 for £88.5m after the Blues beat Arsenal to his signature. The expectation was huge, but Mudryk struggled to produce consistently and never came close to matching the price tag.
Now, north London offers a clean slate. More importantly, Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi already knows the player well from their time together at Shakhtar Donetsk.
De Zerbi once backed Mudryk to become a future Ballon d’Or winner. His belief in the winger has clearly survived the difficult years, and he now has the chance to help unlock the talent he saw earlier in Mudryk’s career.
“Having worked with Misha earlier in his career, I know exactly what he can bring to our team,” De Zerbi said. “He has the quality to change a game with his speed and ability in one-vs-one situations.”
Mudryk will wear No 27 and arrives with an obvious point to prove. “It’s a great feeling,” he said. “I can’t wait to start training and playing for the club, and I’m so excited to be reunited with Roberto De Zerbi.”
His pace and direct running could give Tottenham another weapon in attack. However, after such a long competitive absence, patience may be needed before he reaches his best level.
De Zerbi knows that challenge. “I will demand a lot from Misha,” he said, while promising to help the winger find “the best version of himself.”
Tottenham have also strengthened their defense with Chelsea centre-back Tosin, who has joined for £12m. He replaces Kevin Danso, who moved to Sunderland on loan.
For Mudryk, though, this move is about much more than another transfer. It is a chance to turn a troubled chapter into a comeback story.
