Thomas Partey’s legal team has broken its silence after the former Arsenal midfielder was formally charged with multiple counts of rape and sexual assault. His lawyer insists the Ghanaian international has “fully cooperated” with authorities and is determined to clear his name.
Speaking on behalf of the 32-year-old, criminal defence solicitor Jenny Wiltshire confirmed that Partey “denies all the charges against him” and welcomes the opportunity to prove his innocence in court.
He faces five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, relating to three women, with the alleged incidents taking place between 2021 and 2022. Wiltshire emphasised that Partey has remained transparent with investigators throughout the three-year probe led by the Metropolitan Police.
The charges were brought just days after Partey’s contract with Arsenal expired, bringing his five-year stint with the club to a close. Despite the gravity of the case, Wiltshire made it clear her client would not be engaging in further public commentary while proceedings are active.
The Crown Prosecution Service confirmed that the decision to charge followed “a comprehensive review of the evidence” in consultation with detectives. Both the CPS and the police warned against speculation or online commentary that could jeopardise the integrity of the trial.
Detective Superintendent Andy Furphy, who is leading the investigation, said their focus remains on supporting the women who have come forward and urged others with information to contact the authorities.
Partey is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5. He had joined Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in 2020 in a £45 million deal and made over 130 appearances for the Gunners. He has earned more than 50 caps for Ghana.
