St. Augustine’s College student and rising para athletics star, Gilbert Ampiah, has earned the honor of representing Ghana at the 2025 Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan International Para Athletics Meeting in Marrakech, Morocco.

Ampiah shot to fame after a viral video captured his impressive high jump skills during training ahead of an inter-schools tournament.

Now, he’ll take that talent to the international stage as a member of Team Ghana at the 9th edition of the prestigious competition.

The young athlete is scheduled to leave for Morocco on April 20, alongside fellow team members Govina Edmund (men’s shot put) and Issah Zinabu (women’s category).

Before officially competing, Gilbert will undergo classification from April 21 to 23 to be certified as a para athlete.

Once cleared, he is expected to participate in both the high jump and long jump events.

“We have so much trust in him that he will do well,” said Samson Deen, President of the African Paralympic Committee, in an interview said.

The Marrakech 2025 World Para Athletics (WPA) Grand Prix will run from April 24 to 26, and performances at the event will be crucial for qualification to upcoming major competitions, including the Commonwealth and Paralympic Games.
