Rebecca Sramkova has secured her first-ever WTA title, defeating Laura Siegemund 6-4, 6-4 in the final. This triumph marks a remarkable career surge for the 27-year-old Slovakian.
Sramkova has now won nine of her last 10 matches, including victories over Mananchaya Sawangkaew, Magda Linette, Jana Fett, and Tamara Zidansek. Last week, she finished runner-up to Sonay Kartal in Monastir.
An emotional Sramkova dedicated her title to her grandfather, who is battling cancer: “I would like to dedicate this trophy to my grandpa, who is healing from cancer. I would like to give it to him.”
With this win, Sramkova will break into the Top 70 of the PIF WTA Rankings for the first time. Her previous career-high ranking was No. 89 in May.
Siegemund, bidding for her third WTA title, earned her spot in the final with wins over Alycia Parks, Wang Xiyu, Rebeka Masarova, and Arianne Hartono.
Sramkova dominated the first set, striking 10 winners to Siegemund’s six. In the second set, she broke Siegemund off an errant backhand and served out the title at love.
