Emma Raducanu has been forced to withdraw from the China Open in Beijing due to a foot injury, dealing a blow to her promising comeback.
The 21-year-old Briton revealed on X that she sprained ligaments in her foot, requiring more time to heal. Raducanu initially appeared in the Beijing draw but withdrew shortly after.
Raducanu had been showing signs of resurgence, beating Peyton Stearns and Yue Yuan in Seoul. Those victories propelled her back near the world’s top 50, her highest ranking since August 2022.
Raducanu retired injured against Daria Kasatkina in the Korea Open quarterfinals, citing the foot issue.
After surgery on both wrists and her left ankle, Raducanu returned to action at the start of the year. She has played 33 WTA Tour matches this season, just shy of her personal best in 2022.
