Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana has completed a permanent move to Atalanta, marking a new chapter in his career and becoming the first signing under new manager Ivan Juric.
The 23-year-old arrives in Bergamo from Southampton in a deal worth €17 million, with up to €4 million in performance-based bonuses. He’s signed a four-year contract, with an optional fifth year that could keep him at the club until 2030.
It’s a reunion of sorts, as Sulemana and Juric briefly worked together at St Mary’s during the second half of last season. Despite Southampton’s relegation to the Championship, Sulemana’s technical flair and explosive pace earned him admirers across Europe.
The former Rennes and Nordsjaelland man registered three goals in 48 Premier League appearances during his time in England. Now, he joins a club known for nurturing dynamic attacking talent and competing on multiple fronts in Serie A and Europe.
Speaking to Atalanta’s official media, Sulemana expressed excitement about his new environment. “I just had a tour at the training centre and I can say it’s a big facility, I can’t wait to get started,” he said.
He added, “I’m very happy to start my new adventure here. I will give all my best to the club.” His arrival is seen as a statement of intent by Atalanta, who are rebuilding under Juric after parting ways with Gian Piero Gasperini.
Sulemana becomes the second player with that surname in the Atalanta dressing room, joining Ibrahim Sulemana who signed from Cagliari last summer. While unrelated, the pair now share both a club and a mission: to help Atalanta remain a force in Italian football.
The club’s official statement welcomed Kamaldeen warmly, signalling their faith in his talent and personality. For the Ghana international, this move is more than a transfer, it’s a fresh start on a bigger stage.
