On the heels of being crowned the NBA’s Most Valuable Player, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander delivered a performance worthy of the title, scoring 38 points to power the Oklahoma City Thunder to a commanding 118-103 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 2 of the Western Conference finals.

It was a night that began with celebration and ended in domination. Gilgeous-Alexander received his MVP trophy from Commissioner Adam Silver pregame, then channeled the emotion into a statement performance, 12-of-21 from the field, 13-of-15 from the line, and a second straight win that puts the Thunder two games from the NBA Finals.

“I was a little too juiced up,” he admitted. “Special moment. I’m happy we won so I can really enjoy the last couple days and soak it up.”

Jalen Williams added 26 points and 10 rebounds while rookie Chet Holmgren poured in 22 points and anchored a Thunder defense that suffocated Minnesota. Lu Dort and Williams, both newly named to the NBA All-Defensive teams, led that charge.

Oklahoma City’s defensive intensity turned the game just before halftime. Gilgeous-Alexander capped the second quarter with a deep three and two late free throws to stretch the lead to 58-50. From there, the Thunder’s athleticism and energy took over.

A jaw-dropping three-point play from SGA, finishing through contact from cousin Nickeil Alexander-Walker, sparked an electric third quarter. Moments later, a fast-break lob from Cason Wallace to Holmgren brought the house down and pushed the lead to 17.

Minnesota’s Anthony Edwards dropped 32 points but needed 26 shots to get there. The Wolves briefly rallied in the fourth but never got closer than 10.

“This is a good team at home,” said coach Chris Finch. “So we’re going to go home and fight for Game 3.”
