In a thrilling showdown, Artur Beterbiev defeated Dmitry Bivol by majority decision to unify the light-heavyweight division, becoming the first undisputed champion since 2002.
Bivol, 33, dominated early rounds with razor-sharp movement and combinations, but Beterbiev, 39, refused to back down. The undefeated Russian’s relentless pressure and power punching forced his way back into the fight.
The Judges’ Scorecards read : 114-114, 115-113, 116-112.
Beterbiev’s historic victory secures his status as WBC, WBA (Super), IBF, and WBO champion.
“I feel not bad. I didn’t do well today. I wanted to box with more quality,” Beterbiev said.
Bivol suffered his first loss in 24 bouts. “I am a warrior. I did my job, but I felt like I could do better.”
Fabio Wardley’s spectacular first-round stoppage win over Frazer Clarke in the chief support bout stole the show.
Bivol’s early success was countered by Beterbiev’s menacing power. Both champions were hurt in a thrilling seventh round.
Beterbiev’s victory cements his place among light-heavyweight greats, but promoter Eddie Hearn disputed the decision.
“I’m disgusted… That judge should never work again,” Hearn said.
