Novak Djokovic, the world number four, is one step away from making history as he faces Jannik Sinner in the Shanghai Masters final.

Despite struggling with hip problems, Djokovic defeated Taylor Fritz 6-4 7-6 (8-6) in the semifinals. The 37-year-old Serb displayed impressive form in the first set but faced challenges in the second, requiring a medical timeout.

Djokovic’s determination paid off as he held serve to force a tie-break. Fritz led 6-5, but Djokovic sealed the match with two crucial points.

“I had some issues on the court – physically – here today, but managed to overcome it,” Djokovic said.

On his part, Jannik Sinner became the first Italian to reach the Shanghai Masters final, defeating Tomas Machac 6-4 7-5. The 23-year-old’s impressive performance confirmed his status as the year-end number one player.

“It’s amazing,” Sinner said. “It’s something you dream of when you’re a kid, when you’re young.”

This will be the eighth meeting between Djokovic and Sinner, with Djokovic leading 4-3 in their head-to-head.
