President John Dramani Mahama has made it clear to his appointed ministers that results—not mere attendance—will be the benchmark of their success in office.

Addressing participants at the opening session of a four-day Executive Leadership Programme held on Thursday, April 24, 2025, Mahama emphasized that their appointments carry the weight of public trust and the responsibility to drive meaningful change.

“You were not appointed to occupy space. You were appointed to solve problems,” the President said pointedly. “The Ghanaian people expect us to deliver. And we must – not with excuses, but with results.”

The programme, organised in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), aims to go beyond standard orientations. According to Mahama, this retreat marks the beginning of a broader shift in leadership culture and purpose.

“We’re not here simply to orient ministers. We’re here to shape a collective mindset,” he noted, urging the team to move away from outdated governance models and adopt a forward-looking approach rooted in service and responsiveness.

“The business-as-usual approach will not work. Indeed, it is dead and we must bury it once and for all,” he declared, signaling a clear break from the status quo.

The President also spoke to the rising hopes and demands of Ghanaians—particularly the youth, farmers, and small-scale business owners—who, he said, are eager for a government that delivers tangible progress.

“Our young people are tired of waiting interminably. Our farmers, our workers, our entrepreneurs… want to live in dignity and prosperity,” Mahama observed, underscoring the urgency of action.

He made it known that accountability will be a non-negotiable pillar of his administration. Any appointee who fails to meet expectations, he warned, will be shown the exit.

“Please remember, when any of us fall short, I will not hesitate to act,” he stated firmly.

The retreat brings together government officials, business leaders, and development partners to foster a united vision for transparent and effective governance under the new administration.
