The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a strong warning to the Electoral Commission (EC), stating that it will demonstrate against the commission if it grants the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) request for a forensic audit of the provisional voters’ register.

General Secretary of the NPP, Justin Frimpong Koduah, described the NDC’s demand as hypocritical, citing the lack of substantial evidence to support their claims. This comes after the NDC staged a nationwide demonstration on September 17, 2024, to compel the EC to conduct the audit, citing irregularities and unauthorized manipulation of the voter register. The NDC has given the EC a week’s ultimatum to act, but the governing NPP has criticized the opposition party for refusing to furnish the EC with specific claims of discrepancies in the register. Instead, the NDC has opted for demonstrations .

Koduah emphasized that the EC had assured political parties in 2015 of its capacity to handle its constitutional duties. He questioned what has changed since then, highlighting the NPP’s intention to hold the EC accountable for any inconsistency [1).

According to the NPP, the party has also detected discrepancies in the voters’ register and plans to petition the EC next week to address them through internal mechanisms.
