The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has secured a prime position in the Electoral Commission’s (EC) ballot draw for the upcoming December 7 presidential elections.
At the balloting event held in Accra on Friday, Evans Nimako, the NPP’s Director of Elections, drew the first position, ensuring its prominent placement on the ballot paper.
The main opposition, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), was assigned the 8th position, while Hassan Abdulai Ayariga, candidate for the All People’s Congress (APC), secured the 9th spot.
Kofi Akpaloo of the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) drew number 5 and Nana Akosua Frimpomaa of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) secured the 7th position.
During the balloting process on September 20, 2024, independent candidates were also assigned their places on the ballot for the presidential election.
Kofi Koranteng, an independent candidate, secured the 10th position, while George Twum Barima will be placed at number 11. Nana Kwame Bediako, popularly known as Cheddar, of the New Force Movement took the 12th position, with the Movement for Change rounding out the list at number 13.
These independent candidates will compete against the nine qualified political parties, setting the stage for a dynamic contest as both political parties and independent contenders vie for the presidency.
Earlier, EC Chairperson Jean Mensa announced the disqualification of several presidential aspirants who failed to rectify errors in their nomination forms. Despite being given ample time to address the issues, these candidates did not meet the necessary requirements.
Among the disqualified candidates are Bernard Mornah of the People’s National Convention (PNC) and Janet Nabla of the People’s National Party (PNP).
