The University of Ghana is urging members of its community to exercise caution following a resurgence of COVID-19 cases reported in and around the campus.

In an alert issued by the University’s Health Directorate on Monday, June 23, officials confirmed the presence of both suspected and confirmed cases in the institution’s immediate environment.

While specific case numbers were not disclosed, the warning has triggered a call for increased vigilance across the university’s population of over 50,000 students and thousands of staff and faculty.

The directive emphasizes strict adherence to public health measures, including regular hand hygiene, mask-wearing in enclosed spaces, and avoiding large gatherings. The university also advised visitors to comply with safety protocols while on campus.

“Though the global threat of COVID-19 has significantly declined, and Ghana has experienced a period of stability, the virus has not been eradicated,” the notice read.

“We must remain alert to prevent any disruption to academic or social activities.”

The university’s proactive stance comes amid growing concerns globally over periodic spikes in cases, even as many countries have relaxed pandemic-era regulations.

Authorities say further updates will be provided as monitoring continues and additional safety guidelines may be issued depending on how the situation evolves.
