The University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS) in Ho has officially been renamed the Professor John Evans Atta Mills University of Health and Allied Sciences, in honour of the late former President’s pivotal role in the institution’s establishment.
Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, made the announcement during the inauguration of the university’s new Governing Council held at the Ministry on Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
According to the Ministry, the renaming serves as a tribute to President Mills’s enduring legacy and his steadfast dedication to advancing health and education in Ghana. The late President Mills, a respected academic and statesman, was instrumental in founding UHAS as part of his broader vision to improve healthcare access through education and professional training.
Chairperson of the new Governing Council, Prof. Kodzo Gavua, welcomed the decision and reiterated the university’s continued commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and service to the nation.
The newly renamed Prof. J.E.A. Mills University of Health and Allied Sciences remains one of Ghana’s premier institutions for health education, training a new generation of professionals to meet the country’s growing healthcare needs and to contribute to global health development.
