Carlos Queiroz retained as Ghana Black Stars Head Coach

Carlos Queiroz is back in charge of Ghana. The Ghana Football Association has reached an agreement with the Portuguese coach for him to continue as Black Stars head coach, after his previous mandate ended.

The decision follows talks between Carlos Queiroz, the GFA and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation. His new mandate will begin with the next international window as Ghana enters another important phase of its programme.

Carlos Queiroz is no stranger to the Black Stars. His previous assignment included leading Ghana at the recently concluded FIFA World Cup, giving him valuable knowledge of the players, the team and the demands that come with managing the national side.

That familiarity appears to have played a major role in the GFA’s decision. The association pointed to Carlos Queiroz’s international experience, technical knowledge and understanding of Ghana as key reasons for keeping him at the helm.

“The GFA believes Carlos Queiroz‘s extensive international experience, technical expertise and knowledge of the Black Stars position him strongly to lead the team into this next chapter,” the association said in a statement announcing the return of Carlos Queiroz.

The Portuguese coach brings a long international résumé to the job. He has worked with several national teams and major clubs, giving him experience of high-pressure environments and major international competitions.

Now, the focus quickly shifts from the announcement to the work. Carlos Queiroz must prepare the Black Stars for their next international assignments and guide Ghana through the next phase of its Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.

There are still questions around the new agreement. The GFA has not revealed the length of Carlos Queiroz’s contract or the full terms of his mandate, with more details expected to follow.

For Ghana supporters, the return offers a familiar face at a crucial moment. The challenge for Carlos Queiroz is to turn that familiarity into results and build a Black Stars side capable of making Ghana proud on the international stage once again.
