The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has outlined the objectives of its Borehole Project, emphasizing its focus on improving playing infrastructure by enhancing water access for pitch maintenance.

Formally known as the “GFA Borehole Project,” this initiative was funded by a specific grant from FIFA, which the GFA requested to support infrastructure improvements for clubs nationwide.

The project’s primary goal is to build boreholes and supply necessary equipment, such as water tanks, to improve pitch irrigation systems.

The upgrades are aimed at Regional Football Associations (RFAs), Division One League (DOL), and Ghana Premier League (GPL) clubs.

The GFA clarified that the FIFA grant was never intended for the upkeep of national stadium pitches, as detailed in all official project reports and documentation. The focus has been on providing water sources to enhance pitch conditions at various game venues.

Due to the heavy use of the Tamale Sports Stadium, the GFA decided to allocate one water tank and a borehole to this facility as part of the project.

The GFA’s borehole initiative, approved by the Executive Council and the GFA Congress, is a public effort aimed at strengthening football infrastructure across Ghana.
