Kofi Adams, the Minister of Sports and Recreation, has highlighted the importance of a nationwide commitment to sports development, stressing that the government must take all necessary actions to foster its growth.
Following a meeting with Asante Kotoko’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) and the club’s supporters union on Friday, February 14, Adams recognized the deep passion Ghanaians have for sports and the need for meaningful progress.
“It’s been a productive journey. We’ve learned a lot from our discussions with the Asante Kotoko IMC and the supporters’ union, especially from the concerns they raised. It shows that the love for the sport is still strong, and their main desire is for it to grow. The government must do everything necessary to support the development of our sports,” he told the media.
The minister also emphasized the need for a comprehensive overhaul of Ghana’s sports sector, calling for a fundamental shift in approach.
“We’ve reached a point where all stakeholders, including the GFA, must recognize that a reset is needed—a reset in everything, including our sports and football. This was a key takeaway from my discussions with the Asante Kotoko IMC and supporters,” Adams added.
His remarks come at a time when discussions on improving Ghana’s football and sports sector are gaining momentum, with various stakeholders pushing for policy changes to strengthen the industry.
