The Ghana Police Service has announced the arrest of 12 individuals suspected of looting and causing extensive damage to properties in various parts of the country.
A statement released on Sunday, December 8, by Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Assistant Commissioner of Police and Director of Public Affairs, revealed that the suspects were involved in several acts of vandalism, including the destruction of state properties. Among the damaged sites was the Electoral Commission (EC) office in Damongo, Savannah Region, as well as private residences belonging to District Chief Executives (DCEs).
The statement further detailed that some of the suspects targeted a School Feeding Project warehouse in Tamale, Northern Region, where they stole food supplies and other items.
Police investigations have secured video evidence of the attacks, which are being reviewed to identify and apprehend additional perpetrators. “A team of dedicated investigators is working to ensure that all those involved are brought to justice,” the statement emphasized.
The Police Service has assured the public of heightened security measures, with officers deployed to key locations to maintain law and order. The public was urged to remain calm as law enforcement continues its efforts to restore peace and stability.
The arrests follow heightened tensions in the aftermath of Ghana’s general elections, where isolated incidents of violence have been reported. Authorities are working to ensure the safety of lives and properties across the nation.
