The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has raised concerns over the Electoral Commission’s (EC) delay in declaring the results of the December 7 general elections, warning that the situation is heightening tensions and sparking isolated incidents of violence across the country.

At a press briefing held at the party’s headquarters on Sunday, December 8, NDC National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia called on the EC to fulfill its mandate by promptly announcing the results. He argued that the delay is causing anxiety and unrest, particularly among the youth, who are demanding transparency in the electoral process.

“Both the NDC and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have completed their independent collation of results. The EC, as the official body mandated to oversee and declare the outcomes, must act swiftly. This prolonged delay is creating a dangerous vacuum, leading to anxiety, misinformation, and unrest,” Asiedu Nketia stated.

Asiedu Nketia highlighted the frustration of NDC supporters and emphasized that further delays could exacerbate tensions. He reminded the EC that peace can only be maintained by ensuring clarity and fairness in the process.

“Our agents are still at the collation centers across the country, and we are still waiting. The youth have started reacting, and that is a dangerous sign. The only way to ensure peace is for the EC to announce the results,” he added.

The NDC’s appeal comes as the nation eagerly awaits the final declaration of the election results, with calls from various stakeholders for calm and patience during the process.
