The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), led by President Kurt Okraku, has decided to retain Otto Addo as head coach of the Black Stars despite their failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Black Stars endured a challenging AFCON qualifying campaign, losing three matches and drawing three, leaving them winless in six games.
As a result, they finished at the bottom of Group F, significantly damaging their qualification hopes.
This marks the first time in 20 years that Ghana will miss the AFCON tournament, with their last absence dating back to 2004.
The team’s disappointing performance in the qualifiers has raised concerns about the state of Ghanaian football.
However, the GFA leadership will hold an important meeting on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, to discuss the implications of the qualification failure and other pressing matters.
Amid calls for Otto Addo’s dismissal from some sections of the public, reports indicate that the GFA has decided to keep him in charge.
The FA believes that the coach is not solely responsible for the failure to qualify.
As a result, Otto Addo will continue as head coach and lead the team in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, set to resume in March next year.
