The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to hold its nationwide demonstration today, September 17, to protest against the Electoral Commission (EC) over allegations of anomalies in the voter register.
The NDC claims there have been mass transfers of votes in multiple locations and is demanding a forensic audit of the voters register ahead of the December elections.
The EC, however, maintains that all necessary corrections have been made following the exhibition of the provisional register, citing that the purpose of the exhibition is to facilitate corrections as required by law.
The NDC’s national chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah announced this protest on Monday, September 9, after submitting nomination documents on behalf on John Mahama. He expressed dissatisfaction with what he said is the lack of updates on investigations involving the theft of some Biometric Verification Devices (BVDs), raising suspicions about transparency.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service has outlined guidelines to ensure order and safety during the National Democratic Congress (NDC) demonstration scheduled for today.
Protesters are urged to remain peaceful and follow designated routes and timelines. The police warned that any form of violence or property destruction will not be tolerated and offenders will face consequences, including potential surcharges for damage.
