President-elect John Dramani Mahama has pledged his full cooperation and respect for outgoing President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and his administration as the transition process unfolds.
Speaking during the inauguration of the National Transition Team at the Accra International Conference Centre, Mahama assured Akufo-Addo of his dedication to fostering a smooth and collaborative transfer of power.
“Mr. President, you can count on my respect and cooperation during and even after this transition,” Mahama stated, urging the transition team to prioritize national unity and the greater good. “Let the spirit of nationalism prevail,” he added.
The transition process officially began with a meeting on Wednesday, December 11, at the Jubilee House in Accra. The session marked the formal start of the structured handover from the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The National Transition Team, established under the Presidential (Transition) Act, 2012 (Act 845), is tasked with facilitating the transfer of executive authority. Its duties include briefing the incoming administration on critical state matters, granting access to essential government data, and coordinating the inauguration of the President-elect.
Outgoing President Akufo-Addo has unveiled the government’s representatives on the Transition Team, emphasizing the importance of a seamless power transfer.
This peaceful collaboration between the two leaders highlights Ghana’s enduring democratic values and commitment to governance principles.
The transition process remains a cornerstone of the nation’s democracy, demonstrating the maturity of its political institutions and the shared resolve of its leaders to prioritize national progress over partisan divides.
