Top seed Carlos Alcaraz cruised into the quarter-finals of the Barcelona Open with a commanding straight-sets victory over Laslo Djere.

The Spanish world number two, fresh off his triumph at the Monte Carlo Masters, defeated Serbia’s unseeded Djere 6-2, 6-4.

Alcaraz started strongly, claiming the first five games and firing eight unanswered winners in a dominant opening set.

Although he briefly trailed 4-2 in the second set, the four-time Grand Slam champion rallied impressively, winning the final four games to seal the match.

“After going 4-2 down in the second, I started playing closer to my real level,” Alcaraz said.
“I’m very happy I was able to raise my game and get back to my best. I want to keep that going.”

The 21-year-old will face fifth seed Alex de Minaur in Friday’s quarter-final. The Australian advanced after a convincing win over Britain’s Jacob Fearnley.
