The ongoing voter registration exhibition exercise, intended to ensure that citizens are registered and ready for the upcoming general elections, has seen lower-than-expected turnout, raising concerns among electoral officials.
The exercise organized by the Electoral Commission of Ghana (EC), began earlier today and is expected to end on August 27, was meant to provide an opportunity for eligible citizens to verify and update their registration details.
However, despite nationwide efforts to publicize the exhibition, participation remains disappointingly low across many exhibition centers in the country.
According to reports, many exhibition centers, particularly in rural areas, have seen minimal attendance, with some centers recording fewer than 10 visitors.
Urban centers, such as Accra and Kumasi, have also reported below-average participation compared to previous years.
Some residents revealed a mix of reasons behind the low turnout.
Some citizens expressed that they were unaware of the exercise, while others admitted to a lack of interest in participating.
Others shared a growing sense of political disillusionment.
Meanwhile, electoral officials have expressed optimism for the days ahead, predicting an increased turn up in the coming days.
