Renowned veteran broadcaster and Director of Communications at the Melcom Group of Companies, Godwin Avenorgbo, has passed away.

His sudden death was confirmed by his former long-time employers, the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), who made the announcement late Monday via a brief post on their official Facebook page.

Affectionately known as “The Grandmaster,” Mr. Avenorgbo was revered by peers and mentees for his sweet and commanding voice, which became synonymous with excellence in broadcasting.
His death comes as a shock, especially as he was actively involved in recent public events. On August 15, Mr. Avenorgbo played a key role in the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) 75th Anniversary Commemorative Lecture held at the La Palm Royal Beach Hotel in Accra.
He served as the Chairman of the Anniversary Planning Committee.

GBC’s Facebook post paid tribute to Avenorgbo, acknowledging his contributions with the simple yet heartfelt message: “The Grandmaster has bowed out.” The corporation also wished his “gentle soul” a peaceful rest.

Avenorgbo is fondly remembered for his long and illustrious career at GBC, where he anchored numerous programs with his distinctive voice and engaging presentation style.
Beyond broadcasting, he became a respected public relations and corporate communications specialist, lending his expertise to various companies and organizations throughout Ghana.
His role as a communications strategist continued until the end of his life.
