“I Deserve Better” – Adwoa Safo slams NPP over botched disciplinary hearing

The hearing was scheduled following comments she made on JoyNews’ The Pulse, which the party leadership considered a violation of its directive barring members from making statements that could incite disunity within the party.

Former Dome-Kwabenya Member of Parliament, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has publicly expressed her disappointment with the New Patriotic Party (NPP) after a scheduled appearance before the party’s disciplinary committee failed to take place without prior notice.

The hearing was scheduled following comments she made on JoyNews’ The Pulse, which the party leadership considered a violation of its directive barring members from making statements that could incite disunity within the party.

On Monday, April 7, Adwoa Safo arrived at the NPP’s headquarters at Asylum Down in Accra fully prepared to face the committee. Her appearance was met with a show of support as some party sympathizers gathered in solidarity.

However, upon arrival, she discovered that the committee was not in session—only a single party officer was present to meet her.

“There was no committee sitting today,” she stated. “I had an engagement with a national party officer, but there was no hearing. I’m left wondering why I was served a summons on a Sunday for a meeting that didn’t take place. If there was a change of plans, why wasn’t I personally informed?”

The former MP described the situation as disappointing and unprofessional, particularly given the seriousness such hearings usually demand. She questioned why the party failed to communicate any changes via phone, especially when some party officials have direct access to her contact.

Adwoa Safo, a lawyer by profession, highlighted that appearing before a disciplinary committee implies a presumption of wrongdoing, and such matters should be handled with fairness and dignity—not left to appear as public ridicule.

“The message being sent to the public is that I have done something wrong and that I have come here to be disciplined,” she lamented. “But I’ve come here and there is no one. So, is the case baseless or is there no finding?”

Despite her frustration, she reaffirmed her loyalty to the NPP and expressed readiness to appear before the committee in the future if properly notified.
“I will be available to appear before the party whenever I’m called upon,” she assured.

Adwoa Safo’s remarks serve as a call for greater professionalism and respect in internal party procedures, especially when the reputations of individuals are at stake.
