Parts of the Job 600 building, an annex to the Parliament Chamber, has been engulfed by fire which broke out early Tuesday, August 27. The blaze, which started in the morning, has brought parliamentary activities to a halt.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service are currently working to contain and extinguish the fire. As a precaution, staff and workers in the building have been evacuated to designated assembly points.
The exact cause of the fire has yet to be determined, and investigations are ongoing to assess both the source and the extent of the damage.
Job 600 was commissioned in November 2020 by President Nana Akufo-Addo as part of the Parliament House Physical Infrastructure Enhancement Project. The building is a key component in the efforts to address the longstanding infrastructure challenges faced by Parliament.
Emergency services continue to monitor the situation, and further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
