The Electoral Commission of Ghana has announced plans to rerun the Parliamentary Election in 19 polling stations within the Ablekuma North Constituency.
This follows a dispute over the credibility of results from the December 7, 2024, general election.
The decision was communicated in an official statement released on Tuesday, July 2, 2025, and signed by Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman of Operations at the Commission. It follows a resolution reached during a high-level meeting between the EC and representatives of the country’s two leading political parties—the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP)—on Monday, July 1.
The controversy arose after the NDC raised concerns about the legitimacy of scanned Pink Sheets—electoral result forms—used in compiling results from 37 polling stations. The NDC alleged that these scanned documents, allegedly submitted by the NPP, lacked proper verification and insisted on a complete rerun in all 37 stations.
The NPP, however, countered that only three polling station results were pending collation, maintaining that all scanned Pink Sheets were validated by NDC party agents during the electoral process.
According to the EC, the use of scanned Pink Sheets became necessary after original physical copies were destroyed during a disturbance at the constituency collation centre involving supporters of both parties.
After detailed scrutiny, the Electoral Commission determined that while all scanned Pink Sheets had been acknowledged by the party agents, 19 of them lacked verification by the respective Presiding Officers. Consequently, only these 19 polling stations will be subject to a rerun. The remaining 18 results were found to have been endorsed by both agents and presiding officials and will stand as valid.
The rerun is scheduled for Friday, July 11, 2025.
The EC has assured the public of its firm commitment to a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.
