Kylian Mbappe made his much-anticipated La Liga debut for Real Madrid, but the defending champions were held to a 1-1 draw by Mallorca on the opening day of the season.

Fresh off scoring in Real Madrid’s 2-0 victory over Atalanta in the UEFA Super Cup, the French star couldn’t find the back of the net in his first domestic league appearance for the club.

The summer signing from Paris Saint-Germain had a few promising moments, including a shot that narrowly missed the target and another effort that forced Mallorca’s goalkeeper, Dominik Greif, into a crucial save with his legs.

Real Madrid took the lead when Rodrygo curled in a beautiful strike, set up by a clever backheel from Vinicius Jr.

However, the advantage was short-lived as Mallorca’s Vedat Muriqi leveled the score with a powerful header from Dani Rodriguez’s cross.

The match ended on a sour note for Madrid when defender Ferland Mendy was shown a red card in injury time for a dangerous tackle on Muriqi.

This draw marked the first time the 25-year-old Mbappe, PSG’s all-time top scorer and a six-time Ligue 1 Golden Boot winner, played a league match outside of France since beginning his career with Monaco.

Despite his efforts, Mbappe couldn’t make the decisive impact as Real Madrid had to settle for a point on their La Liga opener.
