The Electoral Commission (EC) has officially confirmed receipt of a petition from the National Democratic Congress (NDC) after the party’s nationwide ‘Enough is Enough’ demonstration on Tuesday.
The NDC has been pushing for a forensic audit of the electoral roll ahead of the December 7 general elections, expressing concerns over the credibility of the voters’ register.
In a statement signed by Deputy Chairman of Operations Samuel Tettey, the EC reassured both the public and the NDC that it remains dedicated to delivering a reliable and accurate final voters’ register.
The EC also expressed its openness to further discussions with the NDC regarding their concerns, reaffirming its commitment to transparency and collaboration.
“We assure the NDC and all stakeholders of our avowed commitment to delivering a credible and robust Final Register ahead of the December 2024 Elections,” Tettey added.
While the Commission has promised to carefully review the petition, a formal response to the NDC’s demands is expected in the coming days. In the meantime, the EC reiterated its willingness to engage in dialogue with all stakeholders to ensure the integrity of the upcoming elections.
The NDC’s protest across all 16 regions of the country was aimed at pressing the EC to enhance transparency, particularly calling for a forensic audit of the voters’ roll to eliminate any discrepancies.
