British number one Jack Draper was defeated in straight sets by Jakub Mensik at the Miami Open, in his first match since winning the Indian Wells title.
The 23-year-old, who has reached a career-high world ranking of seventh, lost 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (7-3) to the Czech player in the second round.
Draper started strong, breaking Mensik in the first game of the match, but the 19-year-old Czech leveled the score at 3-3 and took control from there.
Mensik, ranked 54th in the world, served 21 aces, including four in the first-set tie-break, which he won comfortably.
Tensions flared during the second set when the crowd learned that Brazilian Joao Fonseca’s match against France’s Ugo Humbert had been moved to the main court.
Brazilian fans, some of whom had been in the stands for hours, booed as they left to watch Fonseca, who triumphed 6-4 6-3.
As Draper led 4-3 in the second set, he requested a halt in play due to the loud protests from the crowd.
After the disruption, the set remained on serve until another tie-break, which Mensik won to advance to the third round of an ATP Masters 1000 event for the third time in his career.
