Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe and former Minister for Education, has officially announced his intention to contest the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries ahead of the 2028 general elections.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, June 18, Dr. Adutwum made his intentions clear, stating that he will enter the flagbearership race once the party opens nominations.
“With humility, conviction, and a resolute heart, I, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, declare my intent to run for the flagbearership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), should nominations be officially opened by the party,” he wrote.
Dr. Adutwum, widely acclaimed for his educational reforms during his time as minister, joins an expanding list of prominent party figures eyeing the NPP leadership. His entry comes amid speculation that other high-profile names, including Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia — the party’s 2024 presidential candidate — Kennedy Agyapong, and Bryan Acheampong, are also preparing to join the race.
His declaration follows the NPP National Council’s recent confirmation of January 31, 2026, as the date for the party’s next presidential primary — a schedule set based on recommendations from its constitutional review committee.
