The Member of Parliament (MP) for Yapei-Kusawgu and former Deputy Energy Minister, John Abdulai Jinapor, has revealed that President John Mahama has directed the Chief of Staff to convene an urgent meeting with key players in the power sector due to the impending power crisis.

“At 10 am today, the President instructed that the Chief of Staff lead a meeting with all relevant stakeholders,” he stated.

This meeting will gather various power generation companies to discuss strategies for stabilizing the power supply and averting ‘dumsor’.

In an interview on Joy FM’s Super Morning Show on Wednesday, January 8, Jinapor emphasized the importance of this gathering, citing the previous administration’s failure to secure enough fuel for power generation.

He noted, “GRIDCo, WAPCo, VRA, GNPC, BOST, and other important stakeholders are expected to participate. The goal of the meeting is to address the challenges I have outlined.”

Jinapor went on to share that extensive technical work had been conducted the previous night, presenting multiple options that will be deliberated in the meeting. He expressed confidence that the President will be updated and will give necessary instructions to the Chief of Staff.

On the matter of liquid fuel stocks as of Sunday, January 5, he reported that “AKSA currently has 225m³ in stock, which will last for about five hours at a continuous output of 120 megawatts. KTPP has 1,275m³ available, sufficient for one and a half days with one unit running. Cenpower currently holds 293,000m³, expected to last 20.9 days with two units operating continuously.”

Additionally, he pointed out that while power producers are struggling with fuel shortages, the Asogli plant is entirely out of fuel.

“Asogli has no fuel; there are no reserves available. Even with new fuel deliveries, treatment will still be required,” he explained.
